Dangerous Prayers

I have this habit of praying dangerous prayers without considering the potential ramifications until I’m in the midst of the trial.

Years ago, it was the song Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) by Hillsong. You know the one…”You called me out upon the water…” That song was probably on every church’s worship set. (I’ve likely given you an earworm, sorry) My old church played that song, too. I sang it at the top of my lungs with every bit of sincerity. If it wasn’t played at church, I certainly heard it on the radio. There was no getting away from that song. A few years later, the Lord “called me out upon the water.” I said yes, packed up my bags, and moved to a new city bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. It wasn’t long after that my eyes lost their brightness, and my tail lost its bushiness…my feet began to fail.

Today, I won’t go into the details of that adventure(some are in my book), but you’d think I learned my lesson, right?

Nope, sure didn’t. I can’t help it! 😭 I keep praying dangerous prayers! I did it again recently!

I prayed a dangerous prayer, and now I’m walking through God, answering it. I asked God to show me areas where fear has been showing up in my life so He could heal me. I didn’t want those places to become footholds for the enemy to wreak havoc in my life. The problem is it requires my partnership, which means facing my fears. And that, friends, is scary.

Ok, seriously, even the thought of telling you this is a fear I need to overcome…so here we go…

I confessed to a friend several weeks ago that I’m always hesitant to pull out my bible in a coffee shop because I don’t want to be thought of as a “bible-thumping Christian.” I don’t want the coffee-drinking stranger who walks by my table to think, “This chick is a bible-thumper!”

Irrational? I know! They’re probably not even thinking of me!

I know you know what comes next. God invited me to face that fear. So I went to a coffee shop with my biggest bible, laid it out prominently on my table, and got to reading and writing. Within minutes, I lost all manner of self-consciousness as I was engrossed in my study. A couple of hours later, a group of men sat behind me. Thirty minutes later, as they got up to leave, one of the men said to me, “God bless your Bible study. It looks like you’re about to bring the word! There’s no better way to start the day!”

I was so grateful for his words and realized they were a gift from the Father. That man has no idea how his words contributed to my healing in that area of fear. Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t expect to always be positively acknowledged, but I’ll no longer hesitate to pull my bible out in a coffee shop.

There are other areas, too, He’s working on with me. When said out loud, the kind of irrational fears. But I am grateful that He’s taught me to come to Him in positive confession.

⚠️ Warning: Proceed with caution ⚠️

If you want to join me in facing your fears, here’s the prayer I prayed:

Lord, I give you permission and invite You to expose all the areas of fear I am harboring in my life. Expose the wounds that need healing. Give me grace to talk to You about every fear, no matter how silly it may be. Lord, You have not given me a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. So, I exchange all areas of fear with power, love, and a sound mind. I ask all these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. – 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV

The result will be that He exposes your fears even the hidden ones. Then the ball will be in your court. Will you partner with Him in facing the fear? Will you put your bible on the coffee shop table?

Until next week …

Sharing the Burden

Brenda Savanhu Author of Memorial Stones Sharing the Burden This week has been challenging for me. It was hard to put my finger on it. All I knew is the way I felt. On Tuesday morning, I woke up feeling rested but within minutes I felt like my energy was being siphoned off. It was the strangest thing. As the week went on, I felt better but not fully. Something was off. I later realized that I had all these “windows” open in the background of my brain (much like a computer) and these open…

Fighting through Distraction

Brenda Savanhu Author of Memorial Stones Fighting through Distraction Truthfully, writing for today’s post was a slog. I had to fight through one particular distraction all day. It wasn’t the kind where I could simply turn off my phone or put on headphones. No, this distraction literally manifested in my body. It took me a while to put a finger on it. Eventually, when I took a moment to be still Holy Spirit told me what it was. But the solution He told me to apply also took time. That…

Praise Him

Brenda Savanhu Author of Memorial Stones Praise Him I can’t shake it. For weeks, I’ve heard ” Praise Me” from the Lord. Prayer requests? “Praise Me.” Prayers answered? “Praise Me.” Navigating a challenge? “Praise Me.” In despair? “Praise Me.” Therefore, I won’t take time today to share. Instead, I invite you to spend the next few minutes praising the Lord. No matter where you are or what is happening in your life, join me in thanking and praising Him. Don’t know where to start? How about…
