Thank you so much! I am so grateful for you! 🙏🏿

A friend reached out to me this week.

When I called her back, our exchange went as follows:

Friend: “What you sayin’?”

Me: “Nothing.”

Friend: “Me either.”

We had nothing to say. Life updates weren’t compelling enough to share, and even the usual inquiry of “What are you hearing from God?” seemed trite.

There was nothing wrong between us. We were both fine.

But we realized we needed to listen–to Him!

That said, let me jump right into scripture;

“Suddenly, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of Armies, but the Israelites have abandoned your covenant, torn down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are looking for me to take my life.” Then he said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the Lord’s presence.” At that moment, the Lord passed by. A great and mighty wind was tearing at the mountains and was shattering cliffs before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was a voice, a soft whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. Suddenly, a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of Armies,” he replied, “but the Israelites have abandoned your covenant, torn down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they’re looking for me to take my life.” Then the Lord said to him, “Go and return by the way you came to the Wilderness of Damascus. When you arrive, you are to anoint Hazael as king over Aram. 16 You are to anoint Jehu son of Nimshi as king over Israel and Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel-meholah as prophet in your place. Then Jehu will put to death whoever escapes the sword of Hazael, and Elisha will put to death whoever escapes the sword of Jehu. 18 But I will leave seven thousand in Israel—every knee that has not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him.”
– 1 Kings 19:9-18

Do you see it?

After Elijah ran for his life from Jezebel, the Lord told him to go to the mountain and stand in the Lord’s presence and listen until Elijah heard the Lord’s voice in a soft whisper. In that whisper, the Lord gave Elijah very precise instructions;

  1. Return the way you came
  2. Anoint Hazael as king of Aram
  3. Anoint Jehu as king of Israel
  4. Anoint Elisha to be your replacement

The third instruction stood out to me. Elijah anointed Jehu, who orchestrated the death of Jezebel (2 Kings 9:30-37) and executed the prophesied judgement on Ahab’s family (2 Kings 10:1-11).

Elijah was running from Jezebel and Ahab when God gave him the instructions that would lead to their judgment!

And that was only one instruction that had generational impact! Nevermind the impact of the rest!

To keep my words short, I’ll conclude with this.

Friend, if you’re also in a listening season, don’t feel bad about not having anything to say. Don’t get distracted by the proverbial wind, earthquake or fire. Like Elijah, keep listening intently until you hear the Lord’s voice (John 10:4-5). Because you are standing in His presence, and He’s about to give you instruction that will fulfill prophetic destinies.

Until next week …

Miracles + Blessings!

Brenda
