What’s the last thing God said?

Friend, what is the last thing God told you to do? Have you done it?

I know! I have no chill! But seriously though, have you?

In a time when we have a million options of everything, it’s easy to be distracted by the “new” shiny object. The choices span from the best supplements for your age and stage to the latest prophetic word we need to press into and everything in between. We are bombarded with a ton of information, and for the sake of this post, let’s call it all “good” things like supplements, educational podcasts, books on spiritual growth, sermons, etc.

I can’t take credit for these questions because they came from Holy Spirit during a conversation with a friend about our obsession with the new. Don’t get me wrong, new things aren’t bad after all the Lord asks us if we can see the new thing He is doing (Isaiah 43:19) The problem with the new is when we think it’s from God because it’s “good”, but it’s actually not our assignment.

In the second half of Isaiah 43:19, it says,

“…Indeed I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.”

A river in the wilderness is a beautiful thing — if it is real.

Do you remember learning about mirages in school? They appear to be real and can take a thirsty desert traveler off course when he or she detours towards the mirage oasis in the hopes of refreshment.

The question we can ask ourselves is how do we know if we are seeing the river God put in our wilderness and not a mirage? The only way to know is to keep our eyes on Him. When we’re working on the current assignment, we keep our eyes on Him. He is the One who will give us cues about the next set of instructions. He is the One who will tell us if our work is done, and if it’s time to move on to the new thing He has shown us.

As I look back on the last 10 weeks, I see how the Lord gave me practical things to do that helped me keep my eyes on Him when distractions were pouring in, tempting me to go off course.

At the beginning of August, He called me into Incubation, then He asked me to Surrender.

Discipline, which I didn’t love, followed the surrendered emotions I gingerly gave to the Lord.

I had to Stop Fighting and lean into God and let Him work it out.

September began with the Perspective of Joy followed by the question, Whose voice do we listen to amidst chaos?

In the second half of the month, He nudged me towards course correction, first by showing me how yesterday affects today, which led into a Sabbath Reset and Praying the Word.

From August until now, I see a thread of obedience running through all His instruction, which if you’ve read the book of Deuteronomy, you’ll know is the condition for His blessings. Our obedience to His last instruction, and our focus on Him will get us to where He’s taking us.

So, friend, I ask you again. What was the last thing God told you to do? And have you done it?

Until next week …

Miracles + Blessings!
